I first tried Ice Breakers as a teenager, in the mid-90s. Back then, the brand was produced by LifeSavers, a division of Nabisco, and was only available in mints, not gum, competing with Altoids. Oh, how times have changed. Nowadays, Ice Breakers are made by The Hershey Company, which purchased the brand from Nabisco in 2000. However, it wasn’t until 2006 that Hershey’s launched Ice Breakers Ice Cubes, a new sugar-free, cub-shaped chewing gum that swept through all of North America like a wildfire.
After that year, Hershey would go on to claim a third of the US gum market, proving that this brand was more than just a fad. Two decades later, Ice Breakers Ice Cubes remain as popular as ever, further solidifying their status as one of the top gum brands in the United States and beyond.
