Grippo's
Grippo's is an all time favorite in the Cincininnati and Tri-State area! The company was founded in 1919 by Angelo Grippo, which started out making rolled sugar ice cream cones on Court Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. Grippo's Snack Foods transitioned into making hand twisted baked pretzels in 1923. These handmade pretzels sold for 1¢ at retail stores in the Greater Cincinnati area.
After many succesful years of the handmade baked pretzels, Mr. Grippo invented the "loop pretzel" in 1930. The loop pretzel allowed for a simple pretzel that would resist breakage. Angelo invented and constructed the pretzel looping machines that allowed the manufacturing process to be expidited.
From 1930 to today, Grippo Foods, Inc. has created many snack foods since the pretzel loops. In 1959, Grippo's added potato chips to their product line. This was when the famously known Bar-B-Q seasoning was introduced into their potato chips. Grippo's Bar-B-Q Potato Chips continues to be a staple in the Greater Cincinnati area and will live on forever! Since then, Grippo's has created many delicious snack foods like Cheese Popcorn, Bar-B-Q Cheese Nibs, and Pork Rinds.
