NFL Greats Team Up with Frito-Lay and PepsiCo

Football season is back, and what better way to ring in the excitement than a star-filled campaign? Frito-Lay and PepsiCo are amplifying your gameday experience by joining forces with NFL icons, old and new. This brand-new initiative, dubbed “Unretirement,” aims to tap into fan nostalgia and love for the game.

You’ll see famous faces like Tom Brady, Dan Marino, & Jerry Rice in the promotional TV spot. The campaign is particularly special for Josh Allen, as this marks his first venture with PepsiCo. Allen, the latest addition to PepsiCo’s athlete lineup, even snapped a memorable selfie with Marino during the ad’s shooting.

Greg Lyons, who oversees marketing for PepsiCo Beverages in North America, emphasized how the brands are deeply rooted in the football-watching tradition. “Football isn’t just a game. It’s a full-on experience where the snacks and drinks play a critical role,” Lyons said. “That’s why we’re boosting the thrill with a top-notch mix of athletes, snacks, and drinks.”

When Marino dons reading glasses to read a play call or when Emmitt Smith nods off on the sideline, the ad illustrates that a Lay’s chip and a Pepsi Zero Sugar can be as satisfying as playing the game itself.

Brett O’Brien, who handles marketing for Frito-Lay North America, also shared his thoughts. “We all anticipate the season’s start,” O’Brien mentioned. “So, we’re upping the ante. We’re allowing fans to see legends they never thought they’d see on the gridiron again.”

The TV ad is set to air on September 10 and will be featured throughout the NFL season. This partnership strengthens the longstanding bond between PepsiCo and the NFL, which spans multiple decades.
